Creating a Peaceful Business in the Midst of Motherhood

A new season of my business has begun! Since becoming a Mom, I have absolutely fallen in love with being a homemaker. I’ve spent the past two years working on what I want my life to look like as a Mom and as a business woman. Our current culture has a lot to say about what “kind” of Mom is the best Mom - a working Mom or a stay-at-home Mom. Can you be both a successful Mom and a successful business woman? Over these past two years I’ve had a taste of both and the conclusion I’ve come to so far is that the best “kind” of Mom is a spiritually healthy and peaceful Mom. Notice I didn’t say working or non-working!
As I’ve been navigating what being a healthy, life-giving Mom looks like, the journey with balance and boundaries pertaining to my business has been quite the math problem. What boundaries do I need to put into place to create peace? What re-wiring and growth do I need to see happen within myself to achieve stability in both motherhood and my entrepreneurial pursuits? Here are a few I thought I’d share:
  • I had to start questioning my relationship with my iPhone and social media; I had to apply radical change in this area.
  • I had to set new perimeters around when I am actually “in the office” both mentally and physically; I needed to start staying present.
  • I had to create a vision for what kind of Mom I wanted my son to remember me as; I had to have a long term goal to aim for every day.
  • I started to pray that God would give me a deep desire to be in His word and study the Bible; I needed the fruits of the Spirit and His word to wash over me daily.
  • I had to make a new kind of “achievement” list; I had to re-wire my brain and understand that providing a nourishing meal for my family was allowed to feel as important as launching a new client project.
  • I had to begin to become more disciplined than ever with my thoughts; I needed to start a new narrative of peace that would captivate my thoughts.
  • I had to start asking for help; I needed to lean on friends and teammates.
I am excited to continue to grow my business in peace and to keep the nourishment of my family at the forefront of all that I do. Many of you reading this have been a client of mine and I am so truly thankful and blessed by you! Thank you for your support and please tell your friends about me if they need a web designer. :) The steady growth and expansion this year pushed me to re-name my business from Design by Hannah to DBH Creative Co. something that has been on my heart for awhile.

I hope this has been a seed of encouragement to you today. Whatever season you find yourself in, know that we always have the choice to start afresh, re-design our path and move forward into a more peaceful life.
Blessings,
Hannah
